Environment, Health, and Education: Touching the Future in Uganda - May 23 - June 13, 2018

Under the leadership of Dr. Margarita Rose (Economics) in conjunction with sociologist Dr. Bob Tuttle of Wilkes University, this seminar will introduce students to the fascinating, vibrant country of Uganda, in English-speaking East Africa. Students will meet Ugandans working on the country’s environmental, health, and educational systems; the program puts a premium on getting to know local communities. The first part of the program will involve time with staff and students at Holy Cross Lakeview Senior Secondary School and/or at a health clinic in Jinja (opportunity to gain practicum hours). A visit to a tea cooperative and a meeting with a microfinance group will reveal Ugandans’ entrepreneurial spirit. Students will see the rich natural resources and environment of Uganda in a game drive in a national park, a trek in a rhino sanctuary, and a boat ride on the River Nile. Students may earn 3 credits for this program. Language of instruction is English. Approximate cost if $3300. Price includes all travel, accommodations, lectures, site visits, most meals, health insurance, and 3-credit King's College tuition. Check the BROCHURE for more information. Application Deadline January 26, 2018.
