Global Women's Leadership Institute 2014

Saint Mary’s College has been selected for a grant by the US State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to conduct a Study of the United States Institute (SUSI) for undergraduate women leaders from Libya, Jordan, Iraq, Tunisia, and Egypt on Women and Leadership.

Welcome, participants!

U.S. academic institutions around the country host foreign undergraduate leaders for the five-to-six week long Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders (SUSI). These programs provide participants with intensive academic studies, an educational tour of other regions of the country, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with their American peers. The SUSI for Women’s Leadership, in particular, focuses on the history and participation of women in public life in the United States. According to the program’s intention, participants will:

  • Develop leaderships skills in areas such as critical thinking, communication, decision-making, and managerial abilities, and

  • Be able to place these abilities in the context of the history and participation of women in U.S. politics, economics, culture and society.

The Saint Mary's Educating Tomorrow's Global Women Leaders Institute started with a conference on Women's Leadership at the Department of State and a visit of Washington, D.C. The Institute consisted of four weeks of intensive academic study of U.S. women’s history, leadership, and intercultural skills including short trips to various midwestern cities such as Chicago, IL. This was the third year for the Saint Mary's Institute held June 28 through August 1, 2014.
